Authority Website Update #10 – Nearly $5,000 in February

authority site update
Written by Benjamin

Just wanted to give a quick update.

February’s earnings have been much higher than January’s, my authority website made around $4900 in February, which is pretty good considering the month only has 28 days. Still annoyed I didn’t hit $5,000+

At the end of february my traffic picked up like crazy and with that so did my conversions. I started making $250+ a day.

Then things took a turn for the worse!

I could have ended this on a very happy note, but that’s not reality.

March started of insanely well.

I was on track to do $8,000 in March

So what happened?

Google happened.

A new algorithm happened.

Specifically an update called “Fred”, which you can read about here:

What do I think about this update?

I agree with Google 100%, my site deserved to get slapped.

In fact, I honestly should have been hit quicker.

If you didn’t read the article above this new update pretty much targets sites advertising aggressively and not providing the best content.

Well my site has great content, but oh boy was I greedy when it came to my ad placement. I have pop ups, pop unders, things sliding in, and giant ads everywhere. So I was very aggressive.

Why’d I do this?

Because it works and I wasn’t being punished for it.

So why wouldn’t I?

Can I fix this

Yes, this shouldn’t be to hard to fix. I’ve actually already seen a small recovery.

Did my other sites get hit?

Nope. That’s probably why I’m so upbeat. I honestly don’t care. Which is a nice position to be in. Unfortunately the same can’t be said for a lot of people.

SEO sucks and you shouldn’t build a business on it. If your business can’t survive without SEO, you don’t have a business.

It’s a shame people don’t understand that. If you go into any of the forums or articles about this update you’ll see people who are abouselty F*cked. They lost their only source of income overnight.

My site isn’t dead, far from it

If my rankings stay consistent I should make $1,500 to $2,000 per month. Since my major money keywords dropped from positions #1 to #3 the effect on my earnings is a lot bigger then it seems. A few positive movements and I’ll be back up to $4,000 a month easily. Recovering to the potential $8,000+ I was on track for will take a little longer..

Here’s how my rankings look like as of March 28, 2017

in #3 the keyword makes about $15 a day, in Position #1 it makes me about $30-50 a day. So Monthly that’s a big difference. That’s why I’m working to getting my rightful #1 position 🙂

Another site I’ve been working on in my spare time is doing better and better. So much so, that I think it has potential to do $1,000 a day, which would be pretty good!

What you guys been up to?

About the author

Welcome to Boredmarketer. My's name's Benjamin.

I have around 9 years of search experience and nearly 7 years of PPC experience.

Love Facebook ads and Adwords. Paid traffic = ROCKS.

Even though I'm anti-seo as can be, I still do SEO daily. I enjoy creating sites, and I enjoy ranking sites in the most competitive niches possible.

I made this blog so I can share what I find, and to connect with other marketers out there.

Since there's still so much I don't know, especially when it comes to paid advertising.

For SEO I got you covered :)

  • Benjamin, when are you going to write the name of the site you are writing about? Or at least describe it in more details, so that we can better understand your digital marketing journey. Without that information your posts are like movie trailers with scrambled video.

    • Not planning on sharing the URL since I want to sell the site. I was planning on selling this month, but this Google update kinda messed with my plan 🙁

But I agree with you, I need to share more and I’m planning on it. I want to write a comprehensive guide detailing everything I did, and progress. Basically condensing all the updates into one, but sharing more. Just need to find the time.

  • Oh ben just got your details man. Well I don’t think it would stay long once you figured out the cause which is popups and content hiding.

You still have a great chance to recover as it’s not a standard penalty but a sort of warning. Wishing good luck for you mate.

    • Thanks John!

Already seeing positive movements, so not too worried. If I went down -50 for my keywords I’d be a little more freaked.

Will give an update when I recover 🙂

  • Hey Benjamin,
    Just curious…
I left you a message on Facebook, whether you saw it and ignored it’s a matter of God knows well.
I asked you if you can sell me one of the websites I have read you established for sale, you didn’t reply.
I wouldn’t mind purchasing one from you thank you.
