Authority Website Update #8

authority site update
Written by Benjamin

Good news, and some bad news to share. The good news is my authority website is making somewhat decent money now.

I made $880 in December. Which is awesome, but not great.

The bad news is I should have made at least $2000+ in December.

When I originally started this project I was expecting to make $2-3 per organic visitor, but I only made about $0.89 per visitor (980 organic visitors) in December.

Why?

Well apparently December is a really bad month in my niche (advertiser budgets are gone), and some of my traffic was not so great. Also the holidays killed my traffic.

I was in this niche before ( about 4 years ago), but thing’s have changed since then.

Apparently thing’s start to pick up in January, which I can confirm 🙂

Time to share some stats

Semrush

semrush

I’m reporting as of January 11, 2017 so numbers may be off slightly. I got $51,400 worth of traffic in 1 month. Pretty decent 🙂

Ahrefs

ahrefs

My domain authority is getting pretty strong. Which is great for me. Now when I post new content I generally rank in the top #30, even for some really competitive keywords. With a few internal links I’ve pushed some keywords to the top #15.

Some of my keywords

serpbook

Lot of movement lately. I’ve been working hard on the 368k search volume keyword. It already brings me decent traffic from page #2. Even if I made it to page #1 position #10, it would probably make me $150-300 per day.. More money than the rest of my keywords combined.

Analytics

analytics

I had about 980 organic visitors in December. In the first 11 days of January I have about 600 organic visitors.

What I’ve been doing on my authority website

  1. Having more content written (Finding good writers is hell!)
  2. Blasting press releases on new content
  3. Using my PBN to boost my site (Targeting new content to diversify links and linking new content to my money pages)

To be honest, I haven’t done as much as I should. I’ve been busy with other websites and things. I have some great new keyword ideas to share with you guys very soon.

Goals For January/ February

I’m hoping to make $2,000 in January (Currently at $700). Hoping to make at least $3,000+ in February.

If a few keywords move up, I think $5,000-$10,000 per month would be very possible.

  • Awesome! Exciting to read these and a bit depressing as well as you’re zooming right by me on a site I think I started around the same time. Motivational nonetheless.

Question: How are you building domain authority? Is it just the links you build and PR or do you do “DA stacking”?

    • Just links and PR

I always try to include a link to my homepage.

Your site is doing good Erik. Just keep building links and content and you’ll start to rank.

  • Hi Benjamin,

Awesome read man. I have few of the queries from this post.

How do you manage to get engaging content? Any software is helpful in this regard which could guide which sort of content should be prepared for our audience? I know a tool buzzsumo but I didn’t find it that great. And do you have an inhouse content writers team of you randomly outsource?

Second question is through which tool you measure your rankings as depicted in the above pic under ‘Some of my keywords’ heading?

    • Hi John, thanks

      1) My niche is really dry (Finance) so content doesn’t really need to be engaging.
      2) I use upwork to hire writers. Been through at least 30 writers the last few months. So finding good writers at an affordable rate is tricky. My number #1 issue right now by far.
      3) For serp tracking I use serpbook.com

I do keyword research with ahrefs and kwfinder.

  • Wow, you grow fast, I visited your site like 2-3 months ago and I didn’t gave you too many chances. Great Job !!!
Btw, a quick question, how do you build your backlinks ? (or you don’t ?)

    • Thanks Vlad,

Progress is slow, but when you start getting results it’s like a rocket!

Majority of links currently are PBN/ Press release. But the site had a very solid white hat link base, and still does.

  • I’m so glad that I’ve found out your case study. I’m a bit new to the whole press release backlinks, can you share how to get or where to get them?
    Thanks a lot!

    • Thanks Do,

I buy them from a forum, from someone who buy’s in bulk from one of the bigger PR companies. Send me an email if you’d like and I can link you to there sales page.
